On Turning Two

Today, the triplets…the girls…our babies…turned two.

I guess that means they are no longer ‘babies’ anymore…right?

This video pretty much sums up how the day went {make sure you watch it all of the way through; the ending is quite hilarious…at least to me}:

  • Cake? Check.
  • Antsy Toddlers? Check.
  • Crying Newborn? Check.
  • Two parents trying to make the best of it? Double Check.

sigh

Yet despite the present opening,

…virtual love being showered…

and even the official hanging of our infamous “HAPPY BIRTHD” banner…

…with little Lola taking up so much of our attention lately…the day almost felt like an afterthought. And that’s killing me inside.

Somebody tell me that I’m not a horrible parent 😦

I am trying to keep everything in perspective. The girls won’t necessarily remember all the details of today…and at least they acted like they were enjoying themselves…

…and honestly the love truly was pouring in from all sides.

And after all, we still have a few small little gatherings planned for them as well…which will be something to look forward too. Even so, I’ve promised myself that I will make it up to them next year…when we don’t have an utterly dependent two-week-old…and a brand spankin’ new house to manage…and…

…well…

…when hopefully things will be a little easier.

Regardless…happy birthday, Sienna, Rowan, and Jovie!

  1. Aw don’t feel bad at all. You both are excellent parents and the girls will absolutely not remember this birthday. I should be preaching to myself really…I always put the pressure on for amazing birthdays-birthdays Brody won’t even remember. Let’s all give ourselves a pat on the back for just surviving parenthood! {Give yourselves quadruple pats!!!!}

Happy 2nd ‘Birthd’ Rowan, Sienna, and Jovie!
    Love, Brody 🙂

  2. Horrible parent and Tom Hardinge will never make sense in the same sentence Tom! Having a wonderful birthday isn’t about a fancy party or a million gifts, but you know that! Sienna, Rowan, and Jovie had the perfect birthday because they were with their loving parents, brand new baby sister, super Aunt Shannon, and their wonderful grandparents Steve and Cindy! That’s all they needed for a great day! And with every visitor from MD this summer they’ll get to celebrate it again!
Don’t beat yourself up! You and Missy are doing an amazing job! Love you!

  3. Aubrey makes a good point! Some people get a birthday, some a birth-week, and some a birth-month, but these lucky ladies will pretty much be getting a celebration-birth-summer!

  4. Tommy,

The girls may remember fragments from the day (but probably not.. most people don’t have full memories until 3+), but what they will remember as they get older is the outpouring of love and support you have surrounded them with EVERY day. This is the best gift a child could ever have. Reading your blogs, it is obvious that you and Missy are AMAZING, loving, supportive, caring parents. This will mean more to your girls than anything you could plan for a birthday. Try not to sweat the small stuff.. just enjoy the time with your girls (all 4!), so that you can continue to be an amazing dad. I really admire you and Missy and strive to be as great of a parent one day. Have you ever read the last lecture?? I love the point he makes when Randy empties a can of soda in his brand new car to make a point… then his nephew gets sick and pukes in the car the same weekend! Randy had it right.. life is so short. The. Most important part is to share love. What a difference this makes in a chikd’s life!!! You and Missy are amazing. Don’t beat yourself up.. your girls are so lucky!

  5. Oops sorry to spam u! I’m on my phone and have issues with posting stuff sometimes-operator error 🙂 Didn’t think anything was posted and lost forever… so re-wrote and attempted to post again.

You can delete one if you want! I can’t figure out how. (And yes that makes me feel old and slow! Lol)
