Although this is the first I’ve heard of such a thing, Donuts with Dad is apparently a pretty common event among preschool and kindergarten classes.
For the uninformed, the premise is simple: make sure Dad is involved in all the preschool happenings by hosting a breakfast for them with their student. It’s a pretty brilliant idea actually, especially since I’m usually leaving or already gone for the day by the time the girls are even out of bed. Intentionally setting aside a week day to share a meal with them is a definitely a win, particularly when donuts are involved.
Unless of course, they cancel school the very night before said breakfast.
As in: Missy and I spent the entire week leading to the big day hyping them up and getting them excited, put them to bed, only to then find out preschool was cancelled. So the next morning, I did what any other Dad would do: wake up super early, sneak out to Dunkin’, and surprise everyone with “Donuts with Dad: Take-home Edition” to ease their disappointment.
(Don’t worry; school was closed due to the record-cold polar vortex temperatures…it was still perfectly safe to drive.)
Best of all, Donuts with Dad was quickly rescheduled for the next day (of preschool)…meaning a donut breakfast twice in one week for the four of us!
Yet even after all the hype, the whole affair only lasted about 20 minutes. Well, some took longer to finish than others…
But we all had a blast none-the-less!
I’m sure Missy is anxiously awaiting “Muffins with Mommy,” which should totally be a thing if it isn’t already.
