We decided to do something special for the girls this year for Valentine’s Day. The Daddy-Daughter dance at Hope sounded like a good idea in theory, but combination of the large expected crowds, the colds everyone was getting over at the time, and their tendency to easily get overwhelmed in new situations, I just didn’t feel that this would be the best idea. So Missy hatched a plan: have a Daddy-Daughter date night instead! That is, individual Daddy-Daughter date nights 🙂
The girls were super pumped…not to spend a night alone with me, but to put their fancy dresses on, of course!
Because obviously, that’s just what you do on date night.
Jovie went first, and got to choose one treat. ANY treat in the world…cake, ice cream, fro-yo…you name it, she could have it. Yet her one simple request was “to drink one lemonade with two straws with Daddy.” (No idea…but to her credit, that is considered a treat in our house.) However, just going out to get a lemonade would take 20 minutes…so Miss suggested a game night out at Chuck E Cheese’s. You know, where a kid can be a kid?
Jovie loved the games…
…but like any kid would be, was immediately drawn to those lotto-style “insert one token and win 100 tickets!” games where nobody ever wins…
…of which I tried my hardest to talk her out of before I gave in to her big, sweet puppy dog eyes. Then she immediately hit the jackpot and won 100 tickets.
When does that ever happen?!
Needless to say, she was on cloud nine for the rest of the evening…drinking lemonade with two straws with Dad was just the icing on the cake.
After hearing about game night, her sisters would stand for nothing less.
The next date night was with Sienna.
We marched in and immediately made a beeline to the lotto game where Jovie won her 100 tickets just to prove it was no fluke; obviously I was just extremely good luck to be around. Sienna put in her token, slapped the button…and won two measly tickets. I screamed “Jackpot” anyway and she still got semi-excited. Sorry Sienna!
She continued gaming…
…but was definitely more interested in the slides and rides Chuck E. had to offer.
However, she also wanted to share one lemonade…
…with two straws of course.
As we went to cash in our tickets and collect our prizes, the cashier finding randomly found 195 ticket receipt that was discarded and straight-up gave it to us…leaving Sienna with a gigantic handful of pretty plastic accessories that she otherwise wouldn’t have been able to “afford.”
See? Maybe I’m good luck after all!
Rowan went last…and had to wait an entire extra week before getting her turn, due to busy evening schedules and downright nasty weather.
From the start, she didn’t want lemonade, ice cream, or games for her treat. Nope, this sweet child just wanted Queso. Yep, you heard me right: that kind of queso.
So we went out and got some queso! Who am I to turn down a request like that? And Rowan, like a child after my own heart, downed it all like a champ.
And since we waited so long for her turn, we went to play some games as well. Still no jackpot, but I could tell she had fun regardless!
Sidenote…do NOT go to Chuck E. Cheese on a Friday night. It’s just…scary.
So there you have it. A Date Night with Dad success…times three! Now, if only they will stop asking me to go back to Chuck E. Cheese’s. Yet alas: three times in one month is more that enough for this dude.
Plus I told them no more dates until after Mommy gets her turn 😉
