Spring Projects

Wdm Weather

A five day forecast that contains not one, not two, but three 70°+ days. I think it’s safe to say that spring has indeed arrived in central Iowa. Not only that, but I’ve started receiving texts like this while I’m across town at the office:

Yeah. We’re super pumped for spring. Our outdoor project list includes stringing lights on our deck like this

back porch lighting

…and dream about constructing a play house set like this

Club house

…{or this}…{or maybe this}…

While also making our fire tire (ring) a bit more permanent like this:

fire ring

[The chimney does just fine for small groups…and on nights when you don’t want to go to bed smelling like smoke…but we use the fire ring more often for larger backyard events. We definitely want to make it a little more permanent (less ghetto) looking this summer :-)]

…and building a raised vegetable garden beside the driveway like this:

backyard hops

Wait, sorry…those are actually hops. Maybe next year 😉

How about this:

Plus a few extra feet on that fence, or course.

Needless to say, the girls are jazzed for an outdoor garden. We’ve already made the first of many trips to Lowes to gather the essentials…

Planting 4

Planting 5

…which they immediately set to work planting the next morning:

And look, we already have sprouts! The tomato

…and watermelon are already popping through!

Now, for our next trick: successfully planting these seedlings outdoors in a homemade raised bed and fence them in so that our buds don’t get munched by the abundance of local wildlife, thus crushing four sweet little green thumb dreams in the process. Wish us luck.

Oh, and stay posted for our other backyard project progress along the way!
