A Midsummer Night’s Update

Occasionally.

Infrequently.

Sometimes.

Whichever adjective you choose, it probably describes my current writing habits a lot better than the message on one of my favorite Raygun t-shirts:

Such is the lie I frequently tell myself when the guilt-ridden thoughts of spending an evening writing posts and “editing” pictures crosses my mind. But as a parent with young children, simply saying that “I’m busy” is like saying that I’m an adult that pays taxes…it just comes with the territory.

In reality, it all comes down to making a choice.

More often than not, most nights — after a long day at work, followed by hangout time with the girls, then dinner, then more hangout time (prolonged by the late darkness of summer and unbelievably nice weather), then bath time, and PJ time, brushing-teeth time, book time, and bedtime…then it’s clean up the house time or an evening bike ride — usually my choice is to throw some gym shorts on and have actual adult conversations with Missy (the kind that don’t involve spell-talking) over beers on the front porch, or slide under the comforter to read through my Flipboard magazines while HGTV flashes mindlessly in the background on mute.

There have, of course, been lots of other things going on too; it’s just that blogging to tell about them hasn’t fit in to the equation as of late.

So let’s get caught up!

Where did I leave off before going completely off the grid? May was birthday month: with the older girls day actually falling on a Saturday this year, every weekend from the first through 31st was packed with some sort of celebration.

In June, our annual Anni-Father-Versary-Day celebration was trumped for dance recital week

…that, as you’ve hopefully read, was quite perfect!

My mom (Grammie Mona) was in town for an extended three-week visit…

…and some pretty spectacular Independence Day celebrations.

First there was the neighborhood block party on the fourth:

Oh, and I even managed to sneak Missy out for our first actual date night in over two months! Games at Up // Down, brews at Exile, then eagle watching & sunset gazing a Gray’s Lake…

…which may seem all too familiar to you…but at this point, we know what we like…and with opportunities likes these becoming more and more of a rarity, we don’t want to waste time being disappointed by something we don’t 😉

In between, we’ve been living outdoors, come rain

That’s about it! I hope you all are enjoying the summer just as much as we are…try not to let it slip by too fast 🙂

Until next time, whenever that may be!
