Backyard-to-Table Eating

Iowa in late July: heat, humidity, and sweetcorn!

(Most years, anyway.)

Last night the girls were properly educated from our resident farmer-in-chief on how to find the absolute best meal of the season right in our own backyards.

Step One: Locate the goods.

Make sure it’s ready!

Step Two: Once you’ve found your prize, grasp firmly and quickly pull the ear downwards until it snaps off.

Step Three: Safely secure your loot for transport back to the kitchen for cleaning.

Step Four: Eat!

Hopefully after cooking it, of course.

(Insider tip: steam your corn. Don’t boil it, ever.)

I feel like Missy and I have just reached another parental milestone and fulfilled some sort of Iowa farm girl rite of passage.

And you know what? I couldn’t be happier about it.
